LEAD US
We are living in a time when technological development is moving faster than ever before. Just as we have begun to understand and apply AI, reports emerge about revolutionary advances in quantum technology. As we leave the pandemic behind, we step straight into war and growing global uncertainty — our belief in the future is being tested.
Perhaps this is why trust in new technology among Swedes has declined by 20 percentage points in just five years. It is a clear signal that we need to pause, listen and establish a new shared direction. One we can all feel involved in shaping.
Yet, in the midst of this crisis of confidence, there are also signs of hope. Nine out of ten Swedes want Europe to build its own digital platforms, free from dependence on foreign powers. This is a strong expression of the desire to take control of our digital future. Swedes also show a willingness to contribute to national defence — a reminder that many of us value our open society and are prepared to engage in shaping our shared future.
One of our greatest opportunities lies in education. AI in schools can become a powerful engine for growth. By giving all students — regardless of background or gender — early knowledge of how digital tools can be used for problem-solving, we can foster a generation with confidence in the future. This is how we prepare the next generation for a working life where technology is a natural partner and human capability is elevated to new levels. Half of the Swedish population supports this direction.
As a business leader, I choose to see limitless possibilities. Together, we can find solutions to challenges ranging from the climate crisis to disease. But this requires clarity about what we want to achieve with new technology. Fear can easily lead us to lose trust in technologies that have the potential to solve critical challenges in areas such as healthcare and education — while instead directing investments towards industries driven by fear, such as defence and weapons.
To steer towards the right future, we need courage, long-term thinking and collaboration between business, the public sector and academia.
We can turn scepticism into trust. By being open, transparent and clear about how technology is used, we can rebuild confidence and position Sweden as a leading nation in responsible innovation.
For me, Nexer’s vision — Promising Future — is about a belief in a hopeful future, where technology is guided by care, courage and direction. Let us use technology to build a safer and more sustainable society, where creativity can flow and inspire the next generation. This is not just an opportunity — it is our responsibility.
